Dominica 2013
Ms Shillingford now holds three regional titles in addition to her Miss Dominica 2013 title. She was crowned Miss Carival in St Vincent and the Grenadines on June 29, Miss Jaycees in Antigua on August, Miss Caribbean Culture in Nevis on Monday 5th August. She also placed 1st runner up in the Miss Caribbean World pageant on May 4.
“I’m extremely elated, it’s a good feeling…I am honored that Dominica sent me and that I could do such a great job,” Ms Shillingford told members of the press at a cocktail reception in her honor at the Anchorage Hotel on Thursday evening. “In terms of being Miss Dominica, I’d like to continue with my platform of holistic education, I’ve started a non-profit organization called the Dream Foundation”.

Afro-Europeans
I find it difficult to call myself Dutch. The Dutch do not wait with open doors for the arrival of Black people. My parents were both born and raised in Suriname. Over the years my dad, an entrepreneur, has lived, worked and done business in several countries, including South Africa, the US, Suriname and Morocco. My mum is a social worker, and she runs her own business in the healthcare industry.

In Haiti, people wear T-shirts bearing unlikely English messages: “We’re the 2% who don’t care,” says one; a respectable-looking grandmother dons a T-shirt emblazoned with “Crack is Whack!”; a little boy without shoes or pants wears a “Save Darfur” T-shirt; while training an illegal militia, a tough former army lieutenant sports a “Varsity Cheerleader” T-shirt.

Hoffnung im Herz (1997) is a documentary of Maria Binder about the life of Poet, activst an educator May Ayim (1960 - 1996). In the documentary which is in English and in German she talk about her life and her experience with racism in Germany. For those who don't speak German, I've translated a few parts.
