African American Network


The African-American Network is advocating a network with activists and organizations that is working towards social and economic progress with the descendants of the Diaspora. Most importantly, the sharing of resources will be beneficial for all concerned parties.

The usage of African-American, one automatically assumes that it's referring to the United States actually it could be anywhere in the western hemisphere. Which means descendant from Brazil, Peru, Costa Rica, Canada, the Caribbean Islands, or anywhere in the Americas.

The word African specifically relates to the indigenous people of the African continent and their descents in the Diaspora ( Caribbean , Americas , Arabia , etc). The race-nationality model such as that currently employed by African-American, African-Brazilian and African-Caribbean communities more accurately describes the identity whilst fully articulating the history and geopolitical reality

The miscellaneous usage of the label 'Black' within this site reflects its contemporary use as a means to denote a specific
sociocultural and political context. It is recognized as a colloquial term that was fashioned as a reactionary concept to derogatory racial epithets in the 1960's. It is offensive when used as a racial classification code word to denote African people. Other such denigrating terminology when made in reference to African culture, heritage or identity are 'Tribe', 'Sub-Saharan Africa', or 'black Africa '.

Actor Danny Glover slams UK PM

Glover is in Jamaica at the invitation of chairman of the CARICOM Reparations Commission and vice-chancellor of the University of the West Indies Sir Hilary Beckles who penned an open letter to Cameron ahead of his visit to the island last week, urging him to answer the loud calls for reparations.
Addressing the Jamaica Parliament, Cameron announced a package of over £360 million (US$545.8 million) of bilateral aid for the region, but said that while slavery was and is abhorrent in all its forms and “has no place whatsoever in any civilized society and Britain is proud to have eventually led the way in its abolition”, no reparations would be coming from his country.

Voodoo supreme chief Max Beauvoir of Haiti dies at 79

The Voodoo supreme chief Max Beauvoir has died in his homeland of Haiti, where the mixture of beliefs from west Africa and Catholicism is recognized as an official religion. He was 79.
A government statement said Beauvoir died on Saturday in Haiti’s capital of Port-au-Prince after an illness. The cause of death was not immediately known.
On his Twitter account, President Michel Martelly described Beauvoir’s death as a “great loss for the country”.
Born in 1936, Beauvoir was a biochemical engineer who earned degrees abroad and became a Voodoo priest when he returned to his Caribbean homeland in the 1970s.

A Teachers Thanksgiving

This is a particularly difficult introduction to write. I have been a public schools teacher for twelve years, and I am also a historian and have written several books on American and Native American history. I also just happen to be Quebeque French, Metis, Ojibwa, and Iroquois. Because my Indian ancestors were on both sides of the struggle between the Puritans and the New England Indians and I am well versed in my cultural heritage and history both as an Anishnabeg (Algokin) and Hodenosione (Iroquois), it was felt that I could bring a unique insight to the project.
